Vikings Come Up Even with Oxnard

Valencia 1 vs Oxnard 1

In an 11 inning ‘edge of your seat’ type of game, neither team could step up and win it.  With day light running out, the game was called at a tie.

The Oxnard Yellow Jackets came out to play with a STRONG defensive, particularly in center field.  No matter where the Vikings hit the ball, it seemed as though their center fielder was there.

Oxnard scored in the first inning and the Vikings scored in the 4th after a Madison Shipman single, a Caitlin Rooney sac to move her over, then a steal at third that went bad for Oxnard and got passed the third baseman far enough for Maddi to score the tying run.

The Vikings had 9 singles in the game by Lauren Boser (2), Madison Shipman (2), Karlie Habitz (2), Megan Fogelsong (1), Shannon Fitzgerald (1), Missy Fundora (1).  Carly Mortensen pitched all 11 innings giving up only 4 hits and 1 earned run in the first. Karlie Habitz caught the whole game and made two huge outs catching two runners stealing in the 10th.

The Vikings head to Bullhead City on Wednesday to the Tournament of Champions and will face Greenway in their first game on Thursday at 4pm.
