Vikings Defeat Chaminade

Valencia invokes mercy rule against Chaminade, defeating them 10-0.

Lani Bernardino led off the game with a single and was sacrificed to 2nd by Megan Foglesong. Jessica Spigner then singled to right field to plate Bernardino. Madison Shipman followed with a single of her own to right center and then Amy Moore hit a 2-out basehit to right center to drive in 2 more. Bethany Kemp then walked and the sophomore Annie Dreher hit her 2nd double of the season to knock in another 2 runs, bringing the final tally to 5.

In the 2nd inning, Bernardino led off with a single, followed in order with 5 more singles by Foglesong, Spigner, Shipman (2 RBI), Boser (RBI), and Moore (RBI). For the 3rd straight inning, Bernardino led off, but this time with a triple. She was knocked in by Foglesong to end the scoring in the 3rd at 10. The bats quieted down a bit in the 4th and 5th innings, but Boser and Dreher each had another single and Spigner drove a double deep to right center.

On the day, Bernardino was 3/3 with 3 runs scored; Spigner was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI; Shipman was 2/3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs, Moore was 2/3 with 3 RBIs and a run scored; Dreher was 2/3 with 2 RBIs, Boser was 2/3 with 1 RBI; Foglesong was 1 for 2 with an RBI and run scored. Kemp also drew 2 base on balls and scored once.

Defensively, the team was led by Spigner on the mound, who pitched her first perfect game, striking out 6 in five innings of work. In the 5th, Randall Moreland preserved the perfection by throwing the girl out from right field to Boser at 1st base. Next up for the Vikings is Canyon Country, the first league opponent on Thursday, 3/27 at home.
