Valencia vs Saugus

Lady Vikings take on Saugus.

Top of the 1st, Madison Shipman walked and stole 2nd. Bottom of the 1st with Sarah Enriquez taking to the mound, the Centurions went down in order.  Top of 2nd, Caitlin Rooney singled to center and advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Amy Moore. Annie Dreher walked. In the bottom of the 2nd the Centurions were once again unable to score. Top of the 3rd, Lauren Boser walked. Elena Dickson running for Boser was able to advance to 2nd on a wild pitch that was thrown to Shipman. Shipman walked. Dickson was able to advance to 3rd on a hard hit ball by Megan Foglesong to 2nd. Centurions were once again held in the bottom of the 3rd. Top of 4th, Moore lead off the inning when she drew a walk. Missy Fundora was put in to run for Moore. Dreher hit a bloop single over 1st base and Fundora was tagged out at home. Bottom of the 4th, the Centurions were once again sat down in order. Top of 5th, Boser singled to center and Foglesong walked. Bottom of 5th, the Centurions were unable to score. Top of 6th, Bethany Kemp drew a walk and stole 2nd on a wild pitch. Dreher walked, putting runners at 1st and 2nd. Lindsay Clark grounded out advancing the runners to 2nd and 3rd. The Vikings were unable to capitalize. Bottom of 6th, Centurions again were unable to score. Top of the 7th, Boser lead off the inning with a single to left. Shipman walked. Foglesong laid down a sacrifice bunt which the 3rd baseman bobbled and everyone was safe. With bases loaded Moore singled to right scoring Boser and Shipman and advancing Foglesong to 2nd. Kemp hit a hard shot to the diving short stop who threw it to 3rd to tag Foglesong out. Dreher walked. Shannon Fitzgerald singled to center to scoring Fundora who was running for Moore. Kemp scored on a wild pitch . With the score 4-0 going into the bottom of the 7th, the first batter hit a ball down the 3rd base line for a homerun. The next batter was walked followed by a strikeout. With a runner on 1st the next batter was able to slap the ball in between fielders. With runners at 1st and 3rd the next batter was able to get a hold of one for a homerun. With the score even, Carly Mortensen came in to relieve Enriquez. The first batter singled to center followed by a strikeout and a groundout to Shipman. Into extra innings we go. With the score tied at 4, the only base runner to get on was Foglesong who singled to center and stole 2nd base. Bottom of the 8th, first batter hit a ball off Mortensen’s glove and was safe at 1st. Next batter hit a sacrifice bunt to Mortensen who threw the runner out at 1st advancing the other to 2nd. With a runner at 2nd, the batter was able to hit a single to short and was safe at 1st. The next batter struck out. The next play proved to be a crucial moment for the Vikings. With the batter slapping to Shipman, Shipman caught the ball and did not throw it as she heard the umpire call an out only to find out that it was ruled a hit. With bases loaded, Amy Moore threw down to 3rd to get the runner out that was taking a huge lead. Unfortunately, the ball was to hard to handle and the Centurions were able to score to win the game. Enriquez had 3 strikeouts and Mortensen had 2.
