Valencia 9, Canyon 0: Jessica Spigner took a no-hitter into the seventh - she ended up giving up a lead-off single to former travel teammate Nicole Johnson - and the Vikings (12-2) cruised in their Foothill League opener
The Vikings’ Randall Moreland helped preserve Spigner’s perfection when she charged a soft hit to right field, picked it up after two hops and fired a throw to first to get the runner.

Valencia’s win streak reached 35 but came to an end as the Vikings lost to El Toro 1-0 Friday night.
It nearly ended in the first game as the Vikings squeaked to an 8-7 win over El Modena. Alyssa Garza hit a clutch two-out, two run double in the fifth inning to tie the game 7-7 and Valencia ended the game on a come-backer to pitcher Jessica Spigner who started a double play to nail down the win. The Tennessee signee shined at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored while Lauren Boser had two RBI and Garza knocked in three.
Against El Modena (5-4-1), Bethany Kemp’s sacrifice fly to center in the top of the seventh scored Kelly Deckers for the winning run.

Last year’s National Champion continued its undefeated streak in a blanking of Sunnyslope and now has won 34 games in a row. Currently ranked No. 45, you can expect the Vikings to climb up the national rankings as Tennessee signee Jessica Spigner hit a first inning home run and Lauren Boser hit a single to left center with two outs to plate two in the fifth.
Spigner gave up two hits and struck out 13, escaping a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the seventh.
Sophomore Lauren Boser singled to deep right field over the head of Hayley Moore to score Madison Shipman from third for the win.

Thanks primarily to the efforts of Tennessee-bound pitcher Jessica Spigner and junior Amy Moore, Valencia, ranked No. 9 in the preseason by The Times, opened its season with a doubleheader sweep of No. 20 Camarillo on Tuesday.
Valencia might be the hottest team heading into the tournament. The Vikings lost star pitcher Jordan Taylor to graduation, but they still have plenty of talent. Tennessee-bound Jessica Spigner was the MVP of the prestigious Tournament of Champions after leading the Vikings to the title last week in Bullhead City, Ariz.

On the sports side, Valencia High Softball, the No. 1 high school team in the nation according to USA Today’s national rankings, earned Sports Team of the Year.
"We’re very, very lucky in this valley we have a newspaper that does such a great job covering local sports," said team coach Donna Lee, accepting the trophy. "I also want to thank all the other teams nominated for Team of the Year - you guys are wonderful, too!"
