Valencia vs Agoura

The Valencia Vikings played their first playoff game against Agoura at home.

In the top of the 1st, Agoura went down in order. Bottom of the 1st, Lauren Boser singled to left field and went to 2nd when Madison Shipman drew a walk. Bethany Kemp grounded out, but advanced Boser to 3rd and Shipman to 2nd. Caitlin Rooney hit a single to right, scoring Boser and Shipman. Amy Moore singled to right advancing Rooney to 3rd. Missy Fundora who was running for Moore was able to steal 2nd. Top of 2nd, Agoura once again went down in order with a groundout and two strikeouts. Bottom of 2nd, Shannnon Fitzgerald singled to center followed by another single to center by Megan Foglesong. Fitgerald however was out at 2nd on the throw from center. Boser singled to center advancing Foglesong to to 3rd. With Shipman up to bat, Boser stole 2nd. Shipman was walked. Kemp singled to center, scoring Foglesong. Top of 3rd, Agoura went down in order. Bottom of 3rd, Moore hit a grounder to 3rd but beat out the throw by sliding into 1st. Annie Dreher singled to center advancing pinch runner Fundora to 2nd. Lindsay Clark had a sacrifice bunt advancing the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Fitzgerald singled to center sending Fundora home and Dreher to 3rd. Foglesong singled to center bringing Dreher home. Boser hit a grounder to short and Fitzgerald was tagged out running to 3rd. Shipman doubled scoring Foglesong and sending Boser to 3rd. Top of 4th, Top of 4th, again Agoura was kept scoreless. Bottom of 4th, Dreher singled to center. With Sarah Solano in running for Dreher she was able to advance to 3rd sith a double to center by Clark. Fitzgerald went to 1st when she was hit by a pitch. With bases loaded and Foglesong up to bat, the pitcher had an illegal pitch and advanced the runners, bringing home Solano. Foglesong singled to center bringing Clark home. Top of 5th, Agoura was again kept scoreless. Bottom of the 5th, the Vikings had one base runner when Kemp drew a walk. Top of 6th, Agoura went down in order. Botttom of 6th, the Lady Vikings did not score.  Top of 7th, the only batter that received a hit for the day was a bunt back to Carly Mortensen, the batter was able to beat the throw by sliding into 1st. Agoura was unable to score. The Lady Vikings win their  first playoff game with a one hit shutout by Mortensen and by a score of 8-0.

Valencia vs Saugus

Lady Vikings took on Saugus at home for their final regular season game.

In the top of the 1st with one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Amy Moore was able to get the runner out at 1st that was off the bag. The last out of the inning was a pop up to Lauren Boser at 1st. Bottom of 1st, Boser had a walk. Madison Shipman had a pop up fly to short stop that was dropped allowing the runners to be safe at 1st and 2nd. The Vikings were unable to score. Top of the 2nd, Boser was able to make a behind the back catch behind 1st base for the first out of the inning. Saugus was able to get on base with the next two batters having infield singles. The second and third out were recorded by Carly Mortensen with a comebacker and a strikeout. Bottom of 2nd, Lindsay Clark was the only base runner with a walk. Top of 3rd, with the first batter having a slap single and steal 2nd. Moore made a fabulous play by catching a pop up along the fence in foul territory for the first out. The second out of the inning was made by a great catch in center by Megan Foglesong. The third out was made by Moore who threw down to second to get the runner out. Bottom of 3rd, Foglesong led off the inning with a single to center. Boser followed up with a fabulous slap bunt and beat the throw at first  and with an overthrow allowed Foglesong to go to third. With Shipman up the catcher had an overthrow trying to throw out Foglesong at 3rd, Foglesong scored and Boser went to 2nd. Boser went on to steal 3nd with an overthrow at 2nd. Bethany Kemp drew a walk. Moore doubled to center to score Boser and Kemp to advance to 3rd. With Annie Dreher up to bat, the Saugus pitcher threw a wild pitch that allowed Kemp to score and. Dreher walked. Top of 4th, Saugus went down in order. Bottom of 4th, Shannon Fitzgerald led off the inning with a walk. Foglesong and Boser both had sacrifice bunts advancing Fitzgerald to 2nd then 3rd. The inning was ended with a line out to 2nd.Top of the 5th, Saugus was unable to score. Bottom of 5th, Caitlin Rooney singled to center. Moore tripled, scoring Justine Sibthorp who was running for Rooney. Dreher hit a groundout that allowed Moore to score. Lindsay Clark singled on an overthrow to 1st and advanced to 2nd. Fitzgerald singled to left to score Clark. Fitzgerald went on to steal 2nd while Foglesong was up to bat. Bottom of 6th, Boser singled, but was thrown out trying to go to 2nd. Kemp walked. Rooney doubled and scored Kemp. Top of 7th, inning was led off with a strikeout followed by a walk. The last two outs were recorded by Shipman who caught a line drive and threw to first for the double play. Lady Vikings get the win 7-2. Carly Mortensen was the winning pitcher.

 

 

 

Valencia vs Hart

It was a packed house and an enormous amount of school spirit at Valhalla field on Tuesday 5-12-09 where the Lady Vikings took on Hart and took the win with a 4 hit shut out.

In the top of the 1st Hart went down in order. Bottom of the 1st, Lauren Boser hit a slapper along the 3rd base side and beat the throw at 1st. Madison Shipman then came up with a double and moved Boser to 3rd. The Lady Vikings were unable to score. Top of the 2nd, Hart had 2 strikeouts followed by a hard hit line drive to Boser for the out. Bottom of the 2nd the Vikings went down in order. Top of 3rd, Harts first two batters struck out followed by a walk, single to left and a groundout to Caitlin Rooney for the third out. Bottom of the 3rd, Shannon Fitzgerald hit the first pitch to right field for a double followed by a sacrifice bunt by Megan Foglesong to advance Fitzgerald to 3rd. Boser drew a walk and Madison Shipman was intentionally walked to load the bases. Again the Vikings were unable to capitalize. Top of 4th, the first batter got on with a walk and advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt. The next two batters were put out by Shipman and Amy Moore. Bottom of the 4th the Vikings went down in order. Top of 5th Hart had a groundout to Rooney followed by a single that tipped off Carly Mortensen’s glove and just got by a diving Shipman into center field. A bunt was put down but Boser tagged out the batter and the runner advanced to 2nd. The inning was ended with a strikeout. Bottom of 5th, Fitzgerald had a single but was caught stealing at 2nd base. Top of 6th, the first two outs were recorded by Mortensen with a comebacker and a strikeout. The next batter hit a single but was able to advance to 3rd on an error. The last out of the inning was handled by Rooney when the batter popped up. The real action began in the bottom of the 6th inning when Boser led of the inning getting to 1st when she was hit by a pitch. With Justine Sibthorp running for Boser, Shipman came to the plate and drew her second walk of the game, advancing Sibthorp to 2nd. Bethany Kemp came to the plate and drew another walk to load the bases. Rooney came to the plate and came up huge when she hit a double to left field scoring Sibthorp and Shipman. With Kemp on 3rd and Rooney on 2nd, Annie Dreher was hit by a pitch and went to 1st to load the bases. The Lady Vikings were unable to score more in the inning. With the Vikings winning 2-0, Harts first batter grounded out to Boser followed by another groundout to Shipman. With two down in the inning and only needing one more out to win the game the next batter hit a ball that seemed as though it would go to left field, but Shipman made a diving save to hold the batter to a single. Mortensen recorded the last out with a strikeout. Mortensen took the win with a 2-0 win with 8 strikeout. This truly was a team effort and the ladies played flawlessly. Thank you to all the support from everyone that came out to cheer these ladies on, it truly made a difference.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Senior Day 2009

This year the Lady Vikings bid farewell to two very special girls.  Lindsay Clark and Amy Moore are our only two seniors who will be embarking on the journey of college life this fall.  Both girls and their families are very special to Valencia Softball and we will miss them in a BIG way.  Amy Moore will be attending University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA and Lindsay Clark will be attending Azusa Pacific in Azusa, CA. Both girls will be representing their schools on the field with well deserved athletic scholarships.

 

Valencia vs West Ranch

The Lady Vikings took on West Ranch and the win 9-1.

In the 1st inning Amy Moore had a walk but was unable to score. The bottom of the 1st Carly Mortensen was able to get out of an early bases loaded jam when there was a grounder to Madison Shipman who threw home to Amy Moore for the first out of the inning followed by two strikeouts by Mortensen. Top of the 2nd, Annie Dreher had a single. Bottom of the 2nd, the Lady Vikings were able to get West Ranch out 1,2,3.Top of 3rd, Shannon Fitzgerald had a single to right but was put out at 2nd when Megan Foglesong had a fielders choice. Foglesong stole 2nd. Madison Shipman came up and hit a two run homerun over the center field fence. Bethany Kemp went to 1st when she was hit by a pitch. Top of 4th, Dreher singled to short. Top of 5th, Fitzgerald singled to right followed by a double down 3rd base line by Foglesong who scored Fitzgerald. Amy Moore had a bunt single by beating out the throw and advancing Foglesong to 3rd. Foglesong scored on a wild pitch to Shipman. Bottom of the 5th, a batter was walked. With a runner at 1st, Mortensen struck out the next batter and Moore threw down to 2nd to catch the runner trying to steal. Top of 6th, Caitlin Rooney led off the inning with a walk. Dreher doubled to center scoring pinch runner Elena Dickson. Lauren Boser singled to right and advanced to 2nd on an overthrow. Foglesong doubled to left scoring Dreher and Boser. Bottom of 6th, West Ranch was able to score one run. Top of 7th Shipman singled to left and followed up by stealing 2nd base. Kemp doubled to left scoring Shipman. Rooney singled to left advancing Kemp to 3rd. Jessica Smith hit a deep fly ball to left, just missing a homerun and scoring Kemp. Lindsay Clark singled to left. Bottom of 7th, Mortensen struck out the first batter and then walked the following two batters. The next batter popped up a bunt that a diving Rooney caught to hold the runners and record the second out. Mortensen followed up with a strikeout to end the game. Lady Vikings win 9-1, Mortensen got the win with 10 strikeouts.

 

Valencia vs Golden Valley

Lady Vikings traveled across town to take on Golden Valley a never give up team. Carly Mortensen picked up the win throwing a perfect game posting 10 strikeouts and a score of 15-0.

In the 1st inning Megan Foglesong singled to center followed up by stealing 2nd and 3rd. Bethany Kemp singled to left scoring Foglesong. 2nd inning, Justine Sibthorp walked and then stole 2nd. Shannon Fitzgerald doubled to center scoring Sibthorp. Foglesong tripled to right scoring Fitzgerald. Amy Moore singled to left scoring Foglesong. 3rd inning, Caitlin Rooney doubled to center and went to 3rd on a double by Annie Dreher. Sibthorp doubled to center scoring Rooney. Lindsay Clark singled to center scoring Dreher. With runners at 1st and 2nd Foglesong doubled to left scoring Sibthorp and advancing Clark to 3rd.  4th inning, Kemp singled followed by another single by Rooney. Dreher singled to center scoring Kemp and advancing Rooney to 2nd. Elena Dickson was put in to run for Rooney when Ally Peskay hit a hard shot down the 3rd base line for a single and to score Dickson and advance Dreher to 2nd. Clark hit a single to right to load the bases. Fitzgerald hit a single to center scoring Peskay and Dreher and advancing Clark to 2nd. Moore doubled to center sending Clark home and Fitzgerald to 3rd. With Missy Fundora in to run for Moore, Madison Shipman doubled to left scoring Fitzgerald and advancing Fundora to 3rd.  Kemp doubled to right to score Fundora and Shipman. Elena Dickson hit a grounder to Short and was called out at 1st base which looked as if she beat the throw out. In the top of the 5th Sibthorp singled to left. Clark hit a bomb to left which one hopped over the left field fence and was ruled a ground rule double and advancing Sibthorp to 3rd. Foglesong walked. The inning was ended with a flyout to center.


Valencia vs Canyon

With Carly Mortensen taking to the mound the Cowboys started off with a slap triple to left field. Next batter struck out followed by a walk. With a grounder hit to Mortensen she was unable to get the runner at 3rd in time. The next batter hit to Madison Shipman who threw the ball to home to get the runner out. With two outs the next batter hit a ball to Shipman, but was to fast to get to 1st and two runs score. The last out of the inning was a strikeout. Bottom of the 1st, Amy Moore hit a single to center. With Missy Fundora running for Moore, Shipman hit a 2 run homerun over the center field fence. Caitlin Rooney walked. Top of the 2nd, the Cowboys went down in order. Bottom of the 2nd, Tori Balta singled to left. Top of 3rd, Cowboys were once again sat down in order. Bottom of 3rd, Moore led off the inning with a walk. Bethany Kemp hit a ground ball to 3rd but the fielder threw the ball to 2nd to get Shipman out. Kemp followed up by stealing 2nd. Rooney singled to short with an overthrow to 1st allowing Kemp to score. The top of the 4th was led off by a walk followed by a ball that was hit to Shipman who threw to 2nd to get the lead runner out. The next out was a fly ball recorded by Annie Dreher who was filling in for the injured Lauren Boser at 1st. With two outs in the inning, Mortensen threw a pitch that hit the batter allowing runners at 1st and 2nd. The next batter hit a ball off Mortensen’s glove and the runner was safe at 1st. With the bases loaded, Mortensen was able to get the batter to groundout to Shipman who threw the ball to Dreher for the final out of the inning. The top of the 6th was a wild inning for the Vikings. A grounder to Shipman was thrown to Dreher at 1st who did the splits to record the first out of the inning. Once again a ball was hit to Shipman who threw the ball to 1st, but the ball was dropped allowing the runner to be safe. The folloing at bat was a sacrifice bunt that Dreher picked up to throw to 1st, but the ball was dropped by Kemp who in turn threw to Rooney at 3rd to get the runner out on a fabulous play by both. With two down the batter hit a ball to Shipman who threw to 1st for the out, but the umpires ruled that Dreher pulled her foot off the bag allowing the runner to be safe. The Cowboys were able to tie the game with a pitch that got by Moore. The last out of the inning was a groundout to Shipman. Bottom of the 6th, Rooney hit a single to left field and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. With Jessica Smith running for Rooney, Smith advanced to 3rd on a hit to short by Dreher. The Vikings were unable to score the run. In the 7th with the score tied 3-3, Sarah Enriquez came in for relief of Mortensen after a walk and a single. With runners at 1st and 2nd Enriquez walked the next batter to load the bases. In an unfortunate set of circumstances and the bases loaded Canyon scored two runs on to hit batters. Mortensen was brought back in and got the first out with a comebacker that she threw home, followed by 2 strikeouts to end the inning. In the bottom of the 7th the Vikings were unable to pull off a win as they went down in order. Final score Valencia 3 Cowboys 5. Mortensen had 7 strikeouts in the game.

Top of the 1st, Madison Shipman walked and stole 2nd. Bottom of the 1st with Sarah Enriquez taking to the mound, the Centurions went down in order.  Top of 2nd, Caitlin Rooney singled to center and advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Amy Moore. Annie Dreher walked. In the bottom of the 2nd the Centurions were once again unable to score. Top of the 3rd, Lauren Boser walked. Elena Dickson running for Boser was able to advance to 2nd on a wild pitch that was thrown to Shipman. Shipman walked. Dickson was able to advance to 3rd on a hard hit ball by Megan Foglesong to 2nd. Centurions were once again held in the bottom of the 3rd. Top of 4th, Moore lead off the inning when she drew a walk. Missy Fundora was put in to run for Moore. Dreher hit a bloop single over 1st base and Fundora was tagged out at home. Bottom of the 4th, the Centurions were once again sat down in order. Top of 5th, Boser singled to center and Foglesong walked. Bottom of 5th, the Centurions were unable to score. Top of 6th, Bethany Kemp drew a walk and stole 2nd on a wild pitch. Dreher walked, putting runners at 1st and 2nd. Lindsay Clark grounded out advancing the runners to 2nd and 3rd. The Vikings were unable to capitalize. Bottom of 6th, Centurions again were unable to score. Top of the 7th, Boser lead off the inning with a single to left. Shipman walked. Foglesong laid down a sacrifice bunt which the 3rd baseman bobbled and everyone was safe. With bases loaded Moore singled to right scoring Boser and Shipman and advancing Foglesong to 2nd. Kemp hit a hard shot to the diving short stop who threw it to 3rd to tag Foglesong out. Dreher walked. Shannon Fitzgerald singled to center to scoring Fundora who was running for Moore. Kemp scored on a wild pitch . With the score 4-0 going into the bottom of the 7th, the first batter hit a ball down the 3rd base line for a homerun. The next batter was walked followed by a strikeout. With a runner on 1st the next batter was able to slap the ball in between fielders. With runners at 1st and 3rd the next batter was able to get a hold of one for a homerun. With the score even, Carly Mortensen came in to relieve Enriquez. The first batter singled to center followed by a strikeout and a groundout to Shipman. Into extra innings we go. With the score tied at 4, the only base runner to get on was Foglesong who singled to center and stole 2nd base. Bottom of the 8th, first batter hit a ball off Mortensen’s glove and was safe at 1st. Next batter hit a sacrifice bunt to Mortensen who threw the runner out at 1st advancing the other to 2nd. With a runner at 2nd, the batter was able to hit a single to short and was safe at 1st. The next batter struck out. The next play proved to be a crucial moment for the Vikings. With the batter slapping to Shipman, Shipman caught the ball and did not throw it as she heard the umpire call an out only to find out that it was ruled a hit. With bases loaded, Amy Moore threw down to 3rd to get the runner out that was taking a huge lead. Unfortunately, the ball was to hard to handle and the Centurions were able to score to win the game. Enriquez had 3 strikeouts and Mortensen had 2.


Valencia vs Hart

Lady Vikings pull off an upset defeating Hart 4-2.

In the top of the 1st Tori Balta singled followed up by another single by Lauren Boser. Both runners were able to advance on a wild pitch. Megan Foglesong singled to right scoring both Balta and Boser. Caitlin Rooney singled to left, followed by a single to center by Amy Moore. Annie Dreher hit a deep flyout to left field allowing Foglesong to score. In the top of the 3rd, Rooney had a single to right field. Top of the 4th, Dreher singled to left. Bottom of 4th, after a single to center and a comebacker to Carly Mortensen with a throw to 2nd and the runner safe, the next batter had a sacrifice bunt allowing the Indians runners to advance to 2nd and 3rd. Mortensen struck out the next batter followed by a walk loading the bases. With two outs the batter hit a tough high chopper that looked like it would be impossible to get. Justine Sibthorp made a spectacular play to tag 3rd to end the inning and the threat by the Indians. Top of 5th, Lauren Boser singled to right. Bottom of the 5th,  the first batter was called out while hitting the ball out of the batters box. The next two outs were recorded by Boser who fielded two hard hit balls to get the batters out. Top of the 7th, Shannon Fitzgerald hit the only double of the game down the left field line. Balta advanced Fitzgerald to 3rd on a sacrifice bunt. Madison Shipman was intentionally walked. Bethany Kemp had a single between 2nd and 3rd to score Fitzgerald before Shipman was caught in a pickle and tagged out at 2nd. Going into the bottom of the 7th the score was 4-0 when the 1st batter was walked by Mortensen. The next batter was able to get on with an error, putting runners at 1st and 2nd. Kemp fielded the next out allowing runners to advance to 2nd and 3rd. The next batter flew out to to Foglesong allowing one run to score. A single to right allowed another run to score. The last out of the game was recorded by Shipman who made a great catch in foul ground territory along the lst base side. The Lady Vikings win a fantastic game. Mortensen was on the mound and recorded the win with 6 strikeouts in a very emotional game.
