TOC Championship vs Riverside Poly

Valencia defeated Riverside Poly: score 11-3

In the championship game, Spigner gave up a homerun in the 2nd inning to Riverside Poly pitcher Kendall Gorham.  Poly scored again in the top of the 3rd off a single from Karli Sandoval.  Down 2-0 in the bottom of the 3rd, Valencia loaded the bases, sparked by a walk from Garza and back to back singles from Foglesong and Bernardino.  Spigner dramatically belted a line drive off the upper right field fence, knocking in 2 to tie the game at 2 a-piece.  Shipman followed with an RBI single to left center to give Valencia the lead.  In the bottom of the 4th, with one out, Valencia had 3 back to back singles by Garza, Foglesong, and Bernardino, and RBIs coming from Bernardino and Moore.  With the bases empty and the score 6-3, Poly proceeded to (mistakenly) intentionally walk Spigner, and Shipman answered that challenge with a 2-run homer, giving Valencia a comfortable 8-2 lead.  Valencia further continued to rally with 2 outs and 3 more singles, including RBIs from Garza and Kemp, a single from Rooney, and a wild pitch that scored Boser to bring the score to 11-2.  During the top of the 5th, Cori Reinhardt led off with a single and scored off a second single from Sandoval, who finished the contest 2/3 with 2 RBIs.  Due to a tournament mercy rule, Valencia did not bat in the bottom of the 5th.  Final score: 11-3.
